Students do mission work in Grand Forks

Our 18 Tri-County Ministry confirmation students spent November 14 in Grand Forks, doing work at the Northlands Rescue Mission. They were accompanied by Pastors Marli and Cheri and several other adults.

The students brought all kinds of donations to the mission. These donations, which had been collected in the TCM churches, included men’s clothing and shoes, coats, bikes, hygiene items, phone cards, and quilts. Our group spent time sorting and organizing everything for the store at the mission.

After helping with the noon meal, the group went to McDonalds for a time of discussion and decision making. A total of $125 had been donated by members of the TCM churches, and the students needed to decide how to make the best use of that money. The cash was divided up, and groups of students went to places like thrift stores, a dollar store, and a discount store to purchase duffel bags and other items needed by the mission.

In the end, our students and adults had a very fulfilling day of providing for the homeless population in the Grand Forks area. Another trip to the mission will be planned sometime in the future.
